Late Smt. Shakuntla Shastri and Sri. Moolchand Shastri JiM.V. Degree College is a leading centre for women education in the area. Way back in 1934, it was founded as an Oriental school for educating girls a Vedic culture. College founder Late Smt. Shakuntla Shastri and Sri. Moolchand Shastri were permanent social workers, freedom fighters, who virtually started their public life as delegates in Lahore Congress Session in Dec. 1929.

Influenced by Gandhian constructive programme and the principles of Arya Samaj. High school classes were first introduced in 1945 when it became clear first that the colonial rule was coming to an end. In 1949 Intermediate classes were started and in 1965 Agra University accorded recognition for degree classes.

Smt. Shakuntala Shastri and her husband Shri Mool Chand Shastri set up a Kanya Gurukul. They nurtured this institution through its early difficult years and with this vision, determination and perseverance, it has grown into what it is today ‘Mahila Vidalaya(Degree) College’. The pride of Haridwar.

The college believes in empowering and nurturing women and inculcating sense of responsibility, character building and excellence so that women can hold their own in today’s competitive world.
